PETER HEBBES AM

Peter Hebbes experience in Music Publishing, Records and Management is spread over forty years having started in the business in the United Kingdom in the early 70’s working in management and agency for the legendary Peter Gormley with such artists as Sir Cliff Richard, Olivia Newton-John, The Shadows and Labi Siffre. In the UK the company also represented the international arm of the very successful Australian independent record label Festival Records and Music Publishing. 

At the invitation of the Festival Records and Music Group of Companies Hebbes moved to Australia in 1977 taking up the position of A&R Director and was later appointed Managing Director of Festival Music Publishing. In 1993 he left Festival to take on the role as Managing Director of Universal/MCA Music Publishing Group for the entire Asian region. 

In 2000, After years working for large corporations and companies Peter Hebbes set up his own fully independent music publishing, music business management and consultancy service company based in Sydney. Hebbes Music Group (HMG) has now established itself as one of the regions leading and active independant music publisher that is reflected in the calibre of the catalogues it now represents.


In 2003 HMG was voted as “The Independent Music Publisher of the Year”. Syncronisation, licensing, registration administration and accountability are the keys to HMG’s success. As a consultant HMG has worked with many corporations, theatre and event producers, film and television companies and specialises with musical shows including “Dusty - The Original Pop Diva”, “Shout”, “The Merchants of Bollywood”, “Priscilla Queen of the Desert", "Georgy Girl –The Seekers Musical” and “Rolling Thunder Vietnam".

In 2006 Peter Hebbes contribution to the music industry and extensive charity work was recognised by the Australian Government with his appointment as a Member in the General Division of the Order of Australia (AM). In 2007 he was also voted by The Sydney Morning Herald as one of the top 100 most influential people in Sydney, and in 2009 he was appointed as a Midem Master.

From 2010 to 2012 Peter acted as the General manager of the Australasian Music Publishers Association Limited (AMPAL) which is the industry body representing the music publishers of Australia and New Zealand dealing with industry bodies, government departments and copyright administrators both here and overseas.
